At Blizzcon 2017, Blizzard announced its popular real-time strategy (RTS) game Starcraft II would soon become Free-To-Play. Less than two weeks after the convention, the developer kept its word: the F2P update is available now for download.
Along with this update, Blizzard orchestrated a ton of neat changes to the game such as the consolidation of The Wings of Liberty, Heart of the Swarm, and Legacy of the Void ladders. You can read the full patch notes here. The team really went the extra mile to make some important changes to balance, Co-Op missions, and the map editor (Galaxy) whilst fixing many bugs.
Now that it’s completely free, Starcraft II will probably enjoy a second wind around the globe. Even though its predecessor might still prove to be more popular, you can bet a lot of gamers will give it another shot. It’s hard to predict where it’ll go from there, but after months of continuous decline, the future seems bright(er) for Blizzard’s title.
